What is the righteousness of a weapon that you did not or could not make yourself? None. Absolutely none. As such you are relying on forces greater than you and either posing to representing them (even in the case of a rock), however errantly, or boondoggled by them, also errantly.

The use of the weapon isn't really for self-defense, as the Jedi in this world have no enemy -- the forces of light and dark are already included both in the Jedi Order and forces have already ensured that a path has been made. No the use of such a tool is strictly didactic: can such a tool be used to instruct more efficiently than other options?

In any case, the true master only relies on that which she can make herself. There is no other noble path. In return for the use of a weapon, the State can provide an apprentice -- an exceptional student of the realm -- to be taught by the Jedi.

The Jedi rely on a mastery of martial arts, knowledge, awareness, and personal diet. The martial arts are harmonious with the expression and flow of force. Further, though, they carry this tool until the world is enlightened -- a catalyst in a reaction where power, not reason, prevails.

The pure warrior makes his or her own weapon, which they build over time, never rushing, for Spirit always brings what they need, when they are in harmony with it.

They never rely on the tools and power of the State for their protection, for they are always in harmony with the Force -- the power that transcends all men, including themselves. By making their own instrument, including the tools they need to make it, they are assured that the Force is One with them, too.

The martial arts are applicable to the Way of the Jedi -- every step of living itself: harmonious, egalitarian (equality among others), judicious (giving back for what s/he takes), attentive.

When the State becomes enlightened, then weapons won't be needed. When the Warrior is enlightened, a weapon is redundant.

While it may seem that purely hand and body technique of defense quickly fails amidst the use of advanced weapons such as guns, the truth is that there are other factors of justice that seem to be a quality of the universe itself that come into play. For example, when the martial master sees the weapon, s/he immediately reacts. Such act of spontaneity into an unknown pattern, stalls the mind of their opponent because they can't process what's happening. This only works, when the opponent isn't expressing the pain of the (shared/collective) soul itself, where the awareness will be heightened equally and each party essentially equal, both facing the Unknown, their perceptual-coginitive centers having to process "what it all means" to respond with the pre-established state of truth.

As an extreme example, by the time someone learns to build an atom bomb to attack a master, the master has already been informed or feels the movements through the Force.

Nonetheless, a weapon acts as a catalyst, as the Jedi is already in harmony with the whole.

The construction of a working light saber will require the agreement by the universe in 5 (a cone-based saber) or 7 dimensions (saber that stops on it's own at the end of the saber). The hum that is heard as the saber passes through the ether is the amount of resistance there is to the saber's movement itself. In the hands of one who is serving the Force, pathways are already imagined beforehand to guide the saber towerds the proper path. In other words the saber will feel like it is a sword moving through viscous water in the hands of the fool, while move without resistance in the hands of the adept working with the Force.

Since the saber involves violence, there is almost always resistance, hence the buzzing sound as it passes through space. The Jedi take these losses as karma they must pay back. They do not go seeking violent interactions or resting on victory by appearance.

For the light, they must sacrifice a crystal. Fortunately, the power used by the saber is minimal, as it is only working when cutting.
