Share a tree
Family Gem allows you to share a tree with uncle Bill who's living far away.
Uncle Bill will receive a copy of your tree on his Android device (smartphone or tablet) and yes, he needs to install Family Gem to open the tree.
Then he can modify the tree, and send it back to you. Finally you can import your uncle's modification into your family tree.
To share a tree follow these steps:
-
Open the main menu ☰ and tap on Trees.
-
Tap on the 3 dots ⋮ beside the title of the tree you want to share.
In the menu tap Share. -
In the sharing page you can:
- Modify the Title of the tree.
- Choose the Root of shared tree: this is the first person that uncle Bill will see opening the tree.
- Write the name of the tree Submitter, that is you.
- Make the tree accessible to the app developer (no one else), so he can take inspiration to improve the app.
Finally tap on Share. After a while (depending on the tree size) a list of app will appear.
-
Choose your favorite messaging app (WhatsApp, E-mail, SMS...) to send the link of the shared tree to uncle Bill.
Sharing completed!
Uncle Bill will follow these same 4 steps to share the tree back with you.
If you choose to share your tree, all of this data will be uploaded to Family Gem online server:
- The tree and related media files, collected in a ZIP file
- The title of the tree
- The name of the submitter
Please be sure you're okay with this before sharing your tree.
