Export a GEDCOM file

You've created your family tree, and now your sister wants to have a look too. Only trouble, she's used to using another genealogy program on her PC! No problem, export a GEDCOM file and email it to her. Here's how.

First, you have to enable advanced tools. Navigate to the Trees view and in ⚙ Settings select Show advanced tools.

Now when you pull down the menu for your tree, you will see an Export GEDCOM option. Select it. You will be given the opportunity to select where you want the file to be saved. This will be a plain GEDCOM (*.ged) file or a ZIP file containing the GEDCOM plus all the media files.
You can save it on your local device, or on a cloud service such as Google Drive.
If everything went well, a message GEDCOM exported successfully. will appear briefly.

If you use Google Drive, you can simply tell your sister to load the file from there.

If your sister owns an Android device, it's better to share the tree with her instead. That way, she can make changes and share them back to you.

If you are looking a way to backup your tree to import it on Family Gem again, you have some other options for backup.
