Adoption

Suppose that Herbert Powell was adopted.

To represent an adoption in Family Gem you can do these steps:

• Link Herbert as child in 2 families.
• Add the family lineage.
• Add the adoption event to Herbert profile.

Child in 2 families

If both biological and adoptive parents are known, the final result is to have two families each with different parents, and both with Herbert as child.

To obtain that, starting from Herbert, the simplest way is to link 4 parents repeating 4 times:

Diagram → long press on Herbert → Link new Person / Link existing Person → Parent → add a parent

The first and second parent will end automatically in one family, the third and fourth in another.

Family lineage

To add a family lineage: open a family in which Herbert is child → long press on Herbert → Lineage.

You can choose between:

• Undefined (birth)
• Birth
• Adopted
• Foster

The lineage will appear on Herbert's card next to the "Son" family role.

Adoption event

To add the adoption event into the Herbert's profile:

Profile → Facts → → Event → Other → Adoption
