Last week

NCSU Projects

  • jdm: It is NCSU season again. A class of grad students there has contributed a number of projects to Servo in the past, and are looking for 6 new ones by Sept 18. I've started collecting ideas here: https://github.com/servo/servo/wiki/NCSU-student-projects
  • jdm: If there are things in your area that can be described in fairly detailed steps for new contributors to follow, please add them.
  • gw: Do they have any particular goals we should have in mind?
  • jdm: The class is an "Object-Oriented Programming" class, so the connection to Servo is fairly tenuous. The goal of the project is to get them working on an open source project, create a plan of action, and be able to talk about patterns they are using. They give a presentation at the end of it.

Submodule reviews

  • jdm: Anyone know what type of submodule updates larsberg is talking about?
  • gw: glutin?
  • pcwalton: gaol, ipc-channel... I would love more eyes on these. Difficult since they're quite platform-specific. Willing to be proactive.
  • jdm: Let's table this until larsberg is here.

html5ever reviews

  • jdm: There's been a spurt of PRs to h5e recently, many from nox and also some from me. I think it's unclear how actively kmc is maintaining the project currently. I think Simon has taken an unofficial reviewer role. Is anyone else interested in taking on ownership?
  • crickets
  • jdm: Okay, we'll see if Simon wants to step up officially.

32-bit rustc snapshots

  • jdm: We stopped uploading these, which hurts contributors working on 32-bit machines. I'll talk to larsberg about this.
  • edunham: We're in the process of moving snapshot creating to Rust infrastructure, so it won't be Servo's problem much longer.
  • jdm: Best news!

PR queue

  • jdm: There are 73 open PRs for Servo. In particular there are 36 marked S-awaiting-review, which means no one has looked at the code since it was last updated. I would strongly recommend that everybody go to the PR list, filter by assignee, and see if there are any assigned to you needing review. Skimming over the list to see if there are any others that you could review is also helpful. We should crack down on it before it piles up even higher.

Twitter

  • jdm: I have taken control of the @ServoDev twitter account and have been tweeting and getting good responses. If you notice something cool happening in an area you work on, let me know and I'll tweet about it!
