Hi! I'm Bartek! I have been involved in open source development for a long time, starting with PLD Linux Distribution back in 2001. I still remember how hard it was to do anything when each piece of valuable software was locked behind a pay wall. Open source was a complete game changer for me and since then I believe it's the proper way to do things.
My projects tend to focus on making things go faster. Here's a quick overview:
Tracy Profiler
Tracy is a hybrid frame and sampling profiler. It will help you find performance problems in your projects. It can be described as RAD Telemetry plus Intel VTune, on overdrive. Here's a short (and incomplete) list of companies and projects which already use Tracy and find it useful:
- QLOC (Mortal Kombat 11)
- Bohemia Interactive (Arma 3, Reforger)
- Huuuge Games (Huuuge Casino)
- Artifex Mundi (Endless Fables 4)
- SCS Software (Euro/American Truck Simulator)
- CD Projekt Red (Cyberpunk 2077)
- Unknown Worlds (Natural Selection 2)
- EXOR Studios (The Riftbreaker)
- CERN (ALICE experiment)
- Adobe (Oculus Medium, Shaper)
- NVIDIA (Omniverse)
- Amazon (Lumberyard)
- Mozilla (webrender)
- Frontier Developments (COBRA engine)
- Blizzard (Diablo Immortal)
- Gameloft
- Fatshark (https://www.fatshark.se/)
- VT MAK (https://www.mak.com/)
- Allplan (https://www.allplan.com/)
- OpenSpace (https://www.openspaceproject.com/)
- Flagship Biosciences (proprietary microscope software)
- DigiPen Institute of Technology Singapore (game development course)
- Cocaine Diesel game (https://cocainediesel.fun/)
- nCine game engine (https://ncine.github.io/)
- Deepkit (https://deepkit.ai/)
- Polystream (cloud gaming service)
- Newton Dynamics (http://newtondynamics.com/)
- Codeplay Software (ComputeCpp)
- Tanvas (https://tanvas.co/)
- TomTom (Peugeot Landtrek)
- The Dark Mod (https://www.thedarkmod.com/)
- Netflix
- Boston Dynamics
etcpak
etcpak compresses textures to an Ericsson Texture Compression format, commonly used on mobile devices, which also is the only compression format required to be supported on all implementations of the OpenGL specification. It is 100 to 1000 times faster than other existing texture compression utilities. It has been incorporated into Unity Engine, enabling fast rebuilds of the required assets. An external evaluation of etcpak was performed by Rich Geldreich on his blog: http://richg42.blogspot.com/2016/09/quick-etcpak-quality-test.html
Other noteworthy projects
- git-lard - a native from-scratch implementation of git-fat, providing much better performance (seconds vs hours)
- usenetarchive - a set of tools to process various sources of usenet messages into a coherent, searchable archive
If you find any of these projects useful and would want to express your gratitude, you might consider becoming a sponsor. I'm not offering any rewards, because I don't believe in locking content behind a pay gate. You're welcome to use the source code or join the discussion on the discord server in an open source spirit.
