TiNo means "Tiny Node". The Logo shows a small housing by its frame around the word "TiNo". The 'i' is extended to symbolize an Antenna that radiates. The green color symbolizes the color of the PCB inside.
Long Range – Low Cost – Secure – Tiny Sensor Nodes for IoT
TiNo (“Tiny Node”) is originally a wireless sensor, for example a temperature / humidity meter, which periodically takes a measurement and sends the result by means of a short RF activity (“Burst”) to a gateway, for example a Raspberry Pi. The gateway processes the signal and stores measurements in a data base, so that data can be visualised using cloud services, such as Grafana. TiNo also can be used as a monitoring or acting device. For example it can observe the opening/closing of doors and windows. Because of its security features it is perfectly suited to work as a actor, for example switching power plugs, door opener, door drives, thermostat control…
- very low cost
- very small size (matchbox)
- very low energy consumption
- excellent battery life time (+5 years using a single CR2032 battery)
- very long range (in any case sufficient!)
- optimized security
- ultimate simplicity
- excellent reliability
The TiNo Project is completely open source and documented at github. Building a TiNo sensor is very simple: Assemble the PCB, flash firmware with the Arduino IDE, configure it using the serial interface, insert PCB into the matchbox enclosure, and then lets go! Some hesitate to solder the sensor directly on the PCB. For those, the TiNo PCB has a place holder for sensor modules! The PCB’s fit into commercially available enclosures in the size of a matchbox, or even smaller! So no more 3D printing of custom housing designs! All components are readily available on the market at very low prices.
The TiNo family of devices has been developed with simplicity, low cost and best performance in mind. We have prepared the documentation at github as comprehensive and complete as possible.
