We want to preserve the 191 million creations created by over 5 million players! Visit the official Sporepedia here: http://www.spore.com/sporepedia
Our main archiving effort seeks to replicate all of these creations into both a new database and the Internet Archive, so that they can always be accessed by anyone. In addition, we have the PNG Downloader, which lets anyone quickly download copies of all creations from any player or Sporecast.
- PNG Downloader - a command line app to download creations from any player or Sporecast
- Asset Tool - a web app for getting detailed information about any creation, using its unique ID or PNG
- Server ID list - a exhaustive list of every known creation on Spore.com
- ID Gatherer - an app to bulk-search for creations on Spore.com, even ones believed to be lost
- Sporepedia Getter - an app to download creations using a list of IDs
- SporeGet - a utility to archive creations as .warc files
- PNG Decoder - .NET - an C#/.NET program to extract information from creation PNGs
- PNG Decoder - Python - a Python program to extract information from creation PNGs (not maintained)
- PNG Decoder - Rust - a Rust program to extract information from creation PNGs
- Adventure Decoder - a Java program to extract adventure data from their PNGs (not maintained)
- Adventure Downloader - a Rust program to download creations used in an adventure
- Creation ZIP Porter - a game mod that allows importing and exporting creations through zip files, as well as from the cheat console
We want to build a new community-run Spore server to keep creation sharing alive indefinitely.
While the official servers remain online at this time, there will eventually be a time when EA shuts them down. We have projects to keep the online features working, through unofficial community-run servers.
We already have a mostly-functional server implementation, and a mod for the game that upgrades its netcode and adds the ability to connect to custom servers. See it here: https://github.com/Rosalie241/SporeServer
Additionally, while still in early stages, we are working on plans to host a custom server, potentially integrating with the Sporepedia Archive for a "drop-in" replacement for the official servers, preserving all the content, for a seamless transition to community-run servers.
- SporeServer - a functioning custom server that works with the game
- Resurrection Capsule (ReCap) - a WIP custom server for Darkspore, an action RPG spin-off of Spore
Mods add new parts, features, and even entire gamemodes to Spore. We want to promote Spore modding and make it as simple as possible to both use and create mods.
Community-run servers are also planned to have support for modded creations, something that has always been complicated with the official server.
Tools such as SporeModder FX are critical to creating mods, and Spore ModAPI opens nearly-limitless possibilities for modifying and adding new functionality to the game. The Mod Browser and new mod managers make it easy for players to find and install mods.
- Spore ModAPI - a framework for extending and overriding Spore's code, opening near-unlimited possibilities for new and overhauled content
- SporeModder FX (SMFX) - the current tool for modifying Spore's data files, adding new parts, and changing existing content
- Mod Browser - a website for browsing and downloading mods
- ModAPI Launcher Kit (LK) - the current recommended mod manager
- Spore Mod Manager (SMM) - a WIP mod manager designed to be user-friendly
- Spore Mod Loader - a command line mod manager
In addition to creations, we also seek to archive whatever other Spore-related content we can find.
- Sporum Archive - an archive of the official Spore Forum, which existed from 2008-2018 (currently offline)
- SMC Database - a website hosting concept art, cut content, and various other Spore content (no longer maintained)
