Delta
Delta is one of the many towns on SettleScape. It was the first town to be founded on the server, and is home to the server's current owner.
The name "Delta" comes from the river delta on which the town was founded. The town symbol is the Greek letter Delta ("Δ"), chosen due to it having the same name. The town banner features two solid Greek Deltas (aka, triangles). The number of triangles, 2, represents the number of the town's founders: Swenthorian and Middie321; although the individual triangles themselves do not represent any founder in particular. The color yellow represents the beaches, and the color teal represents the water and the land coming together at the river delta.
Delta is located almost directly south of Spawn (lying only slightly east), and is about a 5-6 minute boat-ride from (0,0). It is situated right in the mouth of the White River, and stretches from the Black River in the West, to near the Gray River in the East. The White River was once economically important, being the town's only way to access oak and slime in the early days of the server; but it has since been entirely supplanted by native industry and a burgeoning road network.
Arbor Isle, located just to the north of Delta, is relocated terrain from Weston, and is used as a tree nursery. The underwater arrow just east of Atlatl was actually naturally generated; it was made symmetrical per its southern half, and lined in dirt to accentuate its shape. The town has a temperate, oceanic (Cfb) climate, with moderately-high precipitation year-round, and a full four seasons; hence the presence of heating in many homes.
The White River cuts Delta into three parts: Delta west of the river, Delta on the river, and Delta east of the river. Delta "on the river" is strictly only the capital island; but traditionally includes the East-river districts that directly border the White. East Delta lies mostly inside of a single large Beach biome; West Delta lies primarily in a Dark Forest Hills biome (originally Tall Birch Hills, before all the native trees were cut-down and replaced); and Central Delta is split between Beach in the North, and Tall Birth Forest in the South.
West Delta is divided into Uptown, which is inside the walls; and Weston, which is outside the walls. East Delta is larger, and is divided into an unnamed district inside the walls, Easton just outside the walls, and Fareston near the Gray River. Central Delta is home to the Delta Harbor in the North, Downtown in the Center, Midtown in the South, and the French Quarter in the Southwest.
Additionally, the entire area inside the walls can be referred-to as "Olton". Most of Olton was not zoned ad-hoc, and consists of a mixture of residential, commercial, and touristy structures. It is primary public-use land. In contrast, most of Weston is zoned for mixed residential/public use, and Easton varies between industrial, public, and residential. The whole town is based on a loose grid centered around a singular, unbreaking road that later became the Great Southern Highway.
Many of the town's districts end in "ton"; this is an abbreviation originally derived from "town". For example: "Olton" came from "Oldtown", "Weston" from "West-town", et cetera. One that isn't particularly clear, is "Fareston"; it derives from "Far Easton", the latter being an abbreviation for "East-town".
