Administrative Settings

The module is administered from admin/islandora/solution_pack_config/oralhistories by those with appropriate permissions. From the screen, administrators can set the following options:

Create WEBVTT file for captions or subtitles.

Will create WEBVTT file from transcript XML file based on "transcript" tier.

You need to set this option if you are using the XML ingest format but wish to enable closed captioning.

Enable captions/subtitles display

Display captions or subtitles on video player when WEBVTT file exists.

This will give you access to the closed captioning features of the player. You can use this if you've selected the option above, or if you are using WEBVTT as your ingest format.

Enable transcript display

Display transcript synchronously with the video or audio.

This option refers to the panel below the video and audio file that shows the full transcript, and highlights cues as the video plays. If you deselect this option, you can still have access to closed captioning features, and your transcripts are still indexed.

Display media and transcript side-by-side

By default, the transcript will be displayed beneath the media object.

Note that this option is not tested and is marked for deprecation in the next release. If you use this feature and would like to see it supported, please contact us to discuss.

Specify VTT default language code(s)

If you have used WebVTT as your ingest format, and have uploaded multiple WebVTTs, then you've likely specified the language of each file, as per instructions, with an underscore followed by a language code (something like transcript_en). In order for these to appear in the closed captioning viewer, you now must define the language code in this box. We recommend using the ISO 639-1 language code for language tracks.

Generate datastream for WebVTT indexing

By default, a datastream for solr indexing will be created when vtt is ingested.

Only use this option if the source files you are ingesting are WebVTT. If you have this feature on and you ingest an XML file as your source file, you will get the base XML file, the webVTT crosswalk, and then another index file for the webVTT file. This is not desirable as it could lead to double entries in your solr index.

For each ingested WebVTT, a corresponding index track is generated.
