It would be nice if I can pass the class or the color of the current item.

dataSource: [
        {
          id: 0,
          name: 'Google I/O',
          location: 'San Francisco, CA',
          startDate: new Date(currentYear, 4, 28),
          endDate: new Date(currentYear, 4, 29),
          color: '#bababa' <-- something like this
        }
]

That's how it actually works.

Any chance you're overriding it with CSS? Just let JS set background color using the color property from your example object.
