How to turn off hex string and confirm which format configuration is applying?

operate system: ubuntu18.04.6 LTS

My program may write bad character to log(see bad-converted.txt) and lnav may think it's a binary file and display with hex string field.

So how to just display plain text rather than with hex string? Is hex strings display after a format is determine? Is there any way to confirom which format is applying?

+1 to this, I'm encountering this issue as well. I don't see any references to "hex mode" in the documentation or help menus so it is unclear to me how to disable hex mode.
