The turn on / turn off scripts allow you to power on a device if need be. Since the Spotify player is technically "always on" under the covers, you have no way to power on a device if need be. Note that when you want to stop the player, you simply pause it or shut down the app; behind the scenes, this simply pauses the Spotify player and the connection to the player is dropped after about 10 minutes of inactivity. In your case, I believe you use Spotify Connect AddOn which is an "always on" type of device (as long as the service is running anyway). In my case, I utilize Bose SoundTouch speakers that require you to power on the device before you can select the Spotify input. These on / off scripts allow you to prepare a device for playing Spotify / shutdown a device after playing Spotify. They could also be used in situations where you need to power up a main amplifier via a relay, and conversely power it down once you switch the player off Note that the scripts are not required - if you don't set a value then they do nothing. Hope that helps. |

I think I've read all related wiki pages, but I still fail to understand the use case. I hope somebody can explain why/when these scripts come in handy.
Furthermore, I found this part in the wiki, but I am still left wondering when/why/how one would power on/off an integration.
