Tessel example for ambient sensor may be outdated?

The documentation in the Tessel example for the ambient module seemed to show different ways to set the interval -- i.e., in the example, there is a setInterval() function, however, this function isn't mentioned in the documentation (apparently, there is another way to set the frequency via polling... this.pollingFrequency = 500;).
