  • Model:oryp8
  • BIOS version: 2023-09-08_42bf7a6
  • EC version: 2023-09-08_42bf7a6
  • OS: Arch Linux
  • Kernel:6.8.0-arch1-1

When using a wavelink thunderbolt dock (Not their displaylink based docks), turning the dock on and then powering up the notebook will result in very random behavior regarding booting. A CMOS reset is required to get the notebook to function again. I have booted the system a few times and observed the following behaviors:

  • System76 post message on all 3 displays (2 via thunderbolt + laptop internal LCD), and then hangs (Does not load OS, or respond to ESC key press)
  • LCD backlight turns on but nothing happens
  • No activity at all (Just the power LED turns on and the system appears dead otherwise)
  • Can boot into the OS, but then every command hangs (Almost like the SSD is not responding at all - The SSD status light does not blink)

After removing the dock, and unplugging the CMOS battery, the notebook will boot up totally OK. I can plug in the thunderbolt dock after the system has posted, and the system will behave like normal until next boot up.
