The biggest change in this release is that the used emoji-library got a big update to v3.0.0 of emoji-mart, which brings many new emojis, but also, unfortunately, some bad changes.
The following new emojis are now supported:
- Emoji v12.1 – adds some emoji sequences like 🧑🦰, 🧑🏻🍳, 🧑🏾🎨, 🧑🏿🚒 and 🧑⚕️
- Emoji v12.0 – 230 new emojis were added in 2019, e.g. 🟢, 🦿, 🧏🏼♀️, 👬🏾, 🦩, 🦦, 🦮, 🥻 and 🛕
- Emoji v11.0 – 157 new emojis were added in 2018, e.g. 🦝, 🦙, 🦛, 👨🦰, 🥺 and 🦸
Unfortunately that change also resulted in some emoji sets being removed as you can read in the upstream changelog. To not further delay the release with many good new emojis (note you still have four emoji sets to choose from + your system emojis!) it has been decided not to try to find a (legal) workaround with EmojiOne (JoyPixels) that has been removed, but if you are sad to see it go, have a look here.
In any case, the add-on will handle the upgrade gracefully and switch to a similar emoji design in case you have selected one of the removed ones.
In addition to all of that, some edge cases and bugs were fixed in order to improve the overall usability of the add-on.
All notable changes
- Highlight: Many new emojis are now supported!🥳 The support now includes Emoji v12.1, Emoji v12.0 and Emoji 11.0! 🥰🥱👩🦽🦧🦦🦾🦘🏴☠️ (#34)
- Removed: As part of adding support for the new emojis, some emoji sets had to be removed. This includes „Facebook Messenger”, which now belongs to „Facebook” and „EmojiOne” (JoyPixels), which has been removed due to legal problems. If you have chosen one of these designs, they are automatically switched to a similar one. (see #83 for more details)
- Improved: The emoji picker display in special circumstances has been improved, especially when it is shown in Firefox' overflow menu or on Android. (#72)
- Fixed: Bug that icon was only displayed in the monochrome version. (#75)
- Fixed: Other minor bug fixes.
- Internal: Dependencies were updated to ensure the security and reliability of this add-on.
