The iOS app OwnTracks does this via the mqtttitude binding. Works nicely for geofencing. |

It is a feature, Openhab already does this, as I said above via the mqtttitude binding. You load OwnTracks on each persons phone, the mqtttitude binding then reports events to Openhab eg crossing a geofence (and which way, ie enter or leave). Multiple geofences can be set up, with different names, and each persons phone gets a different name, so you can have events like "Jill leaves Home" and "Jill enters Work", with associated rules. I have a set of switches that get turned on and off when people enter or leave the Home geofence. So you are asking for a feature hat Openhab already has. Look up the mqtttitude binding Wiki, it explains how to implement geofencing for Openhab. |

many thanks for the the hint using OwnTracks. Sure, there is a solution with OwnTracks which I will use for now. |

Imho the better choice is to use the iCloud binding for presence detection. The battery impact is much lower than you'll ever be able to achieve within an App (iCloud location sharing is a system service after all and hasn't to deal with all the overhead). |

I am using the iCloud binding now to track home/away and writing my travels to a database. Works well. When I finish the Shortcuts integration Shortcuts can do automations based on location, CarPlay connect, Email and many others. |

Hi everyone,
I would love to be able to use a geofence from the openhab app to set my presence state :)
Right now I'm using IFTTT.com linked with my.openhab to set my presence, but it's a little slow to respond.
... maybe make a way to link a geofence to a switch item of choice, so you can have multiple users on the same sitemap but using different phones to set their own presence switch.
Thanks for making a great app!
