PS3 Controller Issue on Chromebook #451
Comments
@Danzig67 But what if you pass the controller using moonlight and not scpserver? |
@jorys-paulin I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean. If I ensure that SCP Server is not started, I get the exact same results as described above. |
@Danzig67 For me, It means that this controller isn't just straight supported. Sorry. |
@jorys-paulin That's a pity. I'm sure it has something to do with SCP Server messing with things, because generally the PS3 standard controller is usually supported in Moonlight from what I have seen. Just can't figure it out. |
@Danzig67 Well if you can just install it, see if that's the problem. |
@Danzig67 Is there any news? Have you tried un-installed scpserver? |
No update I'm afraid. Uninstalling scpserver did not make any difference, so maybe the PS3 controller just doesn't work in this set up. I am going to buy an xbox controller instead when I have some spare money and try that. Thanks for checking in. It was a very frustrating experience! |
@Danzig67 Unfortunately we can't really do anything about it since we're depending on Chrome to support game controllers. Apparently, Chrome doesn't like your controller. I hope you aren't mad at us for that. |
No not mad at all, just frustrated that I couldn't figure out how to get it
to work.
I don't think it is correct to say chrome doesn't like my controller, as it
is recognised and works fine within ChromeOS and even through moonlight
outside of games (ie when in the general desktop) but for some reason when
the games run the controller is not detected.
My only assumption is that perhaps for whatever reason, it is not
recognised as the first registered controller when moonlight loads (ie not
assigned to position 1) so the games don't recognise it. But I'm unable to
verify or troubleshoot this.

I have a PS3 controller connected to my Chromebook via USB and have verified the input works fine in ChromeOS using a HTML5 control pad testing website - the controller is identified as PS3 controller and all buttons register input.
When I launch a game through Moonlight the controller is not registered and nothing works.
The controller is recognised in Moonlight to some extent, however. If I launch a remote desktop (ie I control the host PC's desktop), I can open a browser and go to the same HTML5 based website as above and my controller is recognised (as an xbox 360 controller as I have the PS3 controller working on the host PC using SCPServer) and all buttons respond to input. Also, when I launch a game and press the home button on the PS3 controller I will get a response from the xbox controller overlaying the game fromthe xbox controller software on the host PC, but still nothing registers in the game.
So what I am saying is that I know the controller is recognised in ChromeOS and recognised in Moonlight if I am using it on remote desktop, but it will not be picked up when I launch any of my games.
