Welcome to Cyber Dump 17, your weekly look at what's happening in this insane age of technology. As always, all source links mentioned are below.

COMPUTING

This week the Raspberry Pi foundation announced an upgrade to the Pi Zero, this time adding a little camera connector to the end. Hopefully this will mean production for the Zero will now increase, and people will be able to get their hands on them.

DIY

Nick Poole wrote an interesting article on the Sparkfun blog, about his experiments in making waterproof electronics using a laminator. A really cool idea to make flexible, waterproof circuits.

HOLOGRAMS

Researchers at the Human Media Lab at Queens University have created a flexible holographic smartphone, dubbed HoloFlex. A layer a microlenses allows multiple users to see 3D depth with parellaxing, without the need for headtracking or glasses.

EDUCATION

We featured the french coding school 42 a couple of years ago. Well now they're opening a new university in the US. What sets this apart from all other colleges, is that this is aimed entirely at computer science skills, and it is completely free. Prospective students aged 18-30 can apply on their site.

VIRTUAL REALITY

Google announced their new virtual reality platform, dubbed Daydream. Plans for it include new non-cardboard headsets, platform ready smartphones, a touch controller, and direct integration with Android OS.

Google also recently launched Virtual Art Sessions, a really cool experiment that shows you people creating art in 3 dimensions.

Also a quick update on the VRHackspace idea I talked about a while back. Matt Oholiab on twitter has created a really cool proof-of-concept that renders terminals and other collaborative tools in a VR environment. Watch this space.

PRIVACY

Troy Hunt wrote a great beginners guide to online privacy and anonymity, showing you some of the ways you can protect yourself, along with some reasons why it could benefit you.

VIDEOS

The first video is a BBC documentary called Bodyhack, and it follows a guy who gets a custom built bionic arm.

The next is a mini documentary by Tech Insider showing a group of pentesters who were hired to break into the US power grid.

That's it for this weeks Cyber Dump. Check back next week for more. As ever, thank you for watching.
