An alternative way to put the Dash button into configuration mode by holding the button down for six seconds until it pulses blue. It creates a network called "Amazon ConfigureMe." Connect to that network from a device, then go to 192.168.0.1 in a browser. It shows a little page with the MAC address and serial number.
It can be a bit of a chore for multiple buttons. But it's more straightforward than looking through logs.
It shows my Pi and router broadcasting arp-requests, but none of my 5 buttons is listed when pressed.
