Bigger motor

Thanks for time and effort - this looks like such a great design! I'm in the process of printing your kit and have started accumulating the other parts. I'm going to order a new motor for this. What's the best motor for the job?

I'm not an authority here, but some thoughts to poke your brain while you get an answer:

1. The gantry moves very slowly, so there's no need for fast acceleration at all. Hence, you don't need a lot of torque.
2. Bigger motors bring more weight to the top. This can be good/bad depending on the printer's vibration mode. It'd be interesting to test out with an ADXL345.
3. Bigger motors could give you the same torque with a lower current, which means less heat on the printer parts holding it.
4. I use the same z-motor from my Ender 3, and I brought the current way down, and it's nice and lukewarm (it used to get super hot since I never paid attention to current, my bad). I've increased speeds and it doesn't skip steps, so I'm happy now. Mind you, the only "useful" high speeds on Z is when homing or other non-printing moves.
5. Arguable point: having a motor that's consistent with the majority's will make troubleshooting easier if needed.

Hey sorry for the late response. If you want to reach me faster join my discord. However any motor would work with the mod, even the small z motor, so you shouldn't need a new motor. You could also use the extruder motor if you upgraded to a direct drive system.
