Having Trouble Connecting to Server over Remote Connection #71

I am trying to learn how to host a game over the internet. LAN games work fine but I cannot get a connection over the internet using port forwarding or with a remote device connecting to my home network though a VPN. Is their some setting that needs to be enabled or is their something more fundamental that I am missing?
