I feel a bit the same and spent a considerable amount of time reading through code to understand the flow of data and the role of each "module". It seems that there is a bit of a "learn the theory" prerequisite for looking at the code.

The paper does help a bit but I do think that the code could do with more documentation and/or at least more-descriptive/less-maths-orientated naming to be more accessible.

I do acknowledge the age of this ticket, but am happy to try to assist if you have any specific queries as I've been working with ODAS for the past few months now.
