True that the suggested mapping of organismName from Darwin Core to GUM is entityName, but as a property of the Entity, the entityName can be applied to any Entity. It's not unreasonable that the catalogNumber could be used as a name as well, but it's a good idea to populate catalogNumber with it as well, because there it is particularly useful.
I think this is one of those scenarios where that makes it tricky to consume the data.
I just see that it is an organism with a proper name (or I have no way of telling if it is) - and so I display this nonsense

.Am I right in thinking this field is intended for proper names like:
