No release tags in the repo

As package maintainers for this in RDO, we'd like to have release tags in the repo that shows the progress (i.e. having a 1.0.0 is understood as "ready to be used"). I'd recomend to follow semantic versioning (semver [1]) which is useful by package consumers.
