Hello,
At NGINX, we can define backend protocol by the following annotation:

nginx.ingress.kubernetes.io/backend-protocol: "HTTPS"

Is there an alternative at apisixroute?

Please look at my Kibana apisix route:

In fact, we have had this feature for a long time. Through the ApisixUpstream resource, you can set the schema of upstream/backends to support http/https/grpc/grpcs and more.
