I can easily reparent meshes to an armature, which is great. Unfortunately, they don't remember their original armature, which kind of sucks for export.
Could you add that information to the mesh's object data, and change the parent modifier back before export?
Use case: Weight painting.

I think I'm finally back 🤞 I can see this being a confusing option for people if it happens automatically, but it should be pretty simple to store an identifier for the armature something started with and add a toggle to reparent the mesh to its original armature if desired. If all goes well, I'll work on this over the next couple days.
