I'm not 100% if this works but

  • install a PAPI expansion on all backends (alongside PAPI of course) that provides a placeholder for "item in player's main hand"
  • create a channel with the format that just contains Username: (%placeholder%)
  • add a shortcut command for that channel, like /i
  • install PAPIProxyBridge on all proxies + backends

and players should be able to do this with /i
