We should discuss the feasibility of providing a Firefox sync server package option to allow synchronizing bookmarks etc. to ones local server instead of the public ones. Most important is probably the question if we can set it up in a way that ensures security.

I like this idea! It would be a really nice feature.

  • We should put it behind a docker nginx, see here - related to Server packages #50
  • According to here, the server would be used via http, I guess that it should work equally over https
  • It is unfortunate that the Arch Wiki does not have a section on running an account server

This repository quite nicely shows how docker-compose can be used to setup an nginx reverse proxy using LetsEncrypt for https. docker-nginx-ssl-proxy and docker-letsencrypt-nginx-proxy-companion are two examples of containers that can be used to work with LetsEncrypt.
