Is there any documentation for using the import from text files?

A new journal or notes Collection should allow us to import, according to the drop down menu, but I can't find any documentation concerning what the text file should contain and in what format. Can you elaborate on this? My intention is that I can take a simple list of dates with description of the events on those days and convert that into one of our collections.
