Create procedure for creating the xmm_real_dataset

• Using XMM SA Search get all observation ids of public observations
• Let the user decide what energy band he wants to use. (See Specifications for Individual SSC Data Products, especially chapter 6.5.2.1)
• Let the user decide what the minimum exposure time is
• Download the .FTZ files
• Apply filtering as described in Sam's thesis
• Let the user choose from the following instruments: EPN, EMOS1, EMOS2, EPN & EMOS1 & EMOS2
• Check how we could combine images from the different EPIC-PN sensors
• Create detector masks

Sounds good, note that the https://github.com/SamSweere/xmm-epicpn-simulator project already contains code to create the current xmm_real_dataset. However, this is only for the EPIC-PN sensor. Regarding the other sensors, different filtering methods probably need to be applied. Having the other sensors as an option could be very interesting!

Oh, I didn't see that. Could you give me a link to the file where the xmm_real_dataset is created?
I'll probably move this issue and SamSweere/xmm-superres-denoise#16 into the xmm-epicpn-simulator repo.
