When the Right to Know act comes up for a vote, it will get vetoed by the mayor and we will then need a veto-proof majority to over-ride the mayor. Therefore, we will be in a scramble to make sure city council members hold their initial vote.
Action Kit offers an add-on that allows users to enter their zip and then be given the number to call their representative's offices directly, in an easy "click to call" way. BUT it lacks the local data to click to call NYC Council electeds. So we want to build that!
We want a website where the organizer can:
upload csv of zips, elected name, phone/email and script
enter or be given a custom URL to send in en email campaign to their list of activists
then the activist goes to URL, types in name, email, zip and clicks to call or email elected with script viewed (maybe email auto-fills content?)
activist inputs result of call
organizer able to see who took action and results of calls
API to action kit? Or at least be exportable to import into action kit
If you're an organization and you have an idea for a project, think about these questions before coming to the community:
What kind of technical project is this? (A website? An app? A mobile service? A campaign?)
website
What stage is the project at? (Ideation, implementation, or beta?)
ideation!
What is the problem you are trying to solve, and why is it a problem?
See above. Same thing happened in 2013 with the Community Safety Act, difficult for grassroots orgs to lobby council members on such a short timeline and record who took action so next time we can organize the same people.
Do you know of any similar solutions? And what was lacking in the solution?
Action Kit offers this but they only allow you to contact state or federal representatives and aren't set up for city council.
