When working with summary data and several ensembles, the number of files involved can be quite large. The default SMPEC/UNSMRY files are organized with all data for one report step at the same location internally in the binary file. This means that all time steps must be accessed to be able to import the complete curve for a single summary vector.
In order to make the reading of all values for a single summary vector efficient, the file format ESMRY can be used. The file is organized in a way to make import of a single summary vector as fast and efficient as possible. The speedup during summary curve plotting operations can be significantly faster using ESMRY compared to SMPEC/UNSMRY .
The FMU workflow can be configured to export summary data to ESMRY files. If SMSPEC/UNSMRY is present, but ESMRY is missing, ResInsight is able to do the file conversion to ESMRY. This operation will take some time.
Configuration in ResInsight
In Preferences, set the file reader to ESMRY. Also set options to control if ESMRY file should be created by ResInsight if they are not found.
