One thing that would be really, really nice, would be if we had some sort of support for reading in data that is stored on-disk, and also storing the resultant list of correlation matrices on-disk.

I know there is a couple of options on CRAN (including on.disk, bigmemory, and ff), and then matter in Bioconductor that was developed for mass spec imaging.
