Describe the bug

I installed Outline VPN, entered my key, and clicked the “Connect” button. A window popped up that said “Administrator privileges may be required to start. Continue?” I clicked “Yes” and the attempt to connect to the server was immediately aborted, and so endlessly no matter how many times I tried. I noticed that in the “Services” section OutlineService is not started and does not start when I open the program. It works fine on my phone

Steps to reproduce

  1. Installed Outline
  2. Opened Outline
  3. Entered my key
  4. Pressed connect button
  5. Received this everlastin cycle of connection

What did you expect to happen?

No response

What actually happened?

No response

What operation system are you using?

Windows

Windows 11 23H2

I have the same problem, only the VPN connects, but after a while the entire network on the PC just crashes.

It seems the OutlineService.exe is not started correctly. Please check out #1451 for some useful tips to help you troubleshoot.

I tried the method you described in the attached thread, but nothing changed, also just noticed that vpn stopped working on phones as well.

Nothing changed. It says OutlineService not launched
To call for additional help, type NET HELPMSG 3521.
[SC] DeleteService: Success
[SC] CreateService: Success
“OutlineService” is launching....

It seems the issue is caused by not able to launch OutlineService. You may try to run the commands defined in C:\Program Files (x86)\Outline\install_windows_service.bat by yourself to see more errors.

You may also try to use Event Viewer to filter the OutlineService errors:

We need more logs to troubleshoot.

I see. It seems you are running in a restricted environment. Is it possible that your environment is blocking our service from running?

Hello. Today I received an update to win11 and encountered the same problem, the service stopped connecting

Event viewer has 7 different messages for every connection attempt:

2024-10-27_03-59-36
2024-10-27_03-59-29
2024-10-27_03-59-24
2024-10-27_03-58-59
2024-10-27_03-58-39
2024-10-27_03-58-32
2024-10-27_03-58-19

There are no problems when trying to connect to the server through the hiddify application

Thanks @chpogurt for the detailed logs, the issue seems to be:

This means the TAP device has been removed by the OS update somehow. Please make sure the TAP device is reinstalled. You may just try to reinstall Outline Client. You can find more information about the tap device installation here: #1007.
