There are genes in NCBI Gene that have the same symbol but do not denote the same gene. AKT1, for example, can denote different concepts. In the current way for handling gene IDs and names this leads to charts that seemingly show the same gene multiple times (when searching only for AKT1, the pie chart has two slices, a large and a very small one, both labeled 'AKT1').
Disambiguate those names by appending additional information like the official name or the species.
