I've always had an issue with the fact that sugar cane farms can only be so compact/full if you want to do an observer design (though I only do that early game) its really high profile and needs a lot of space to be fast/efficient and flying machine sugar cane farms also feel like they have wasted space.
Therefore Im want a feature where you can place sugar cane on top of mud blocks without water needing to be directly in contact with the mud block, you can have a piece of sugar cane on every block in the given area making it much more effent, this would also make the process of making a sugar cane farm much faster as you don't need to have water buckets with you.
The best vanilla option I had in mine was if I were to stack multiple layers of a "module" on top of each other but that still isn't truly optimizing space I feel

Mud blocks were introduced in 1.19 so this rule would only apply to the 1.19+ versions. Since mod version parity is required for each minecraft version, this needs to be done as part of a mod update with other universal features. I've added this to the 1.4.0 milestone, which is the next minor version in the roadmap.
