With the current two year limit and annual elections, committees can experience significant turn over on an annual (or bi-annual) basis. Additionally, recruitment for leadership positions can be challenging. This issue speaks to discussion around the potential for a revised model. Examples that have been floated include Chair and chair elect scenarios, removal of the 2-year limit, extended service terms etc.

The Chair and Chair-elect model is a possibility, as is the Chair and Chair-Emeritus model. At the moment, the Governance Committee is effectively operating under the latter model, though informally of course.
However, both of these models would require a two-year commitment. Is that an issue for ESIP? Do we think it is that hard to get volunteers who would be unwilling to sign on for a two year tour?
Other notes from the discussion:
Perhaps engage Committee Chairs and ex-Chairs
Turnover is an issue for effectiveness and continuity of Committees
Draft language would include analysis of impacts of proposed changes
Would staggered longer terms help?
Stagger by Type?
Nomination Committee exists only for the short time needed to develop a slate
Also need to consider President and Vice President
Remember the impact to Program Committee
ESIP is still an organization of Volunteers, but Committees are essential for the functioning of ESIP
How to communicate importance of Committees and Committee membership to ESIP community? Topic in Business Meeting?
