ARFID: Automated ID System

An RFID-based automated ID system that records attendance. Awarded Best Thesis in Applied Sciences and Engineering.

This is our high school thesis project where we developed an RFID system from scratch using an arduino, spare PC, and RFID cards for student attendance, parent sms notification, and teacher class summary.

Overview of accomplishments

  • Created a low cost scanning device

    • Scan RFID of student or teacher (RFID Module)
    • Logs attendance time
    • Sends a text message to parents of arrival (GSM Module)
    • Emails a tabulated summary of attendance to teachers of entire class
    • Visual interface
  • Collected data from 100 students (created personalised ID), 100 parents, and 5 teachers

  • Statistical analysis from students, parents, and teachers

    • Result: Statistically significant improvement and positive perception on the adoption of developed technology
  • Bonus! Awarded the Best Thesis in Applied Sciences and Engineering.
