Matrix group #2598
Comments
I think that our project ought not be the type that requires extensive discussion. Some other OSS intrinsically requires much community involvement and discussion, but at least right now, we have a ways to go before reaching that. That being said, if Matrix attracted more attention to our project and potentially increased the chances of attracting skilled assistance, I think it would be worth the effort. But that is something I would like your comment on. Do you think that if we added a Matrix group, that it would meaningfully add to our communication portfolio, that it adds something that github and discord do not already offer? Would a helpful dev be likely to have a matrix account and not have a github account? If not, then wouldn't enabling Github Discussions be a better fit? |
I do think that enabling Discussions would be helpful. Many people, like me, do not have Discord because they're closed source, but I do think that GitHub Discussions would be fine as there's not much of a need for immediate communication. |
Yet you comment on GitHub (also a closed source platform)? That reasoning doesn't really make much sense in this context.
I think that our current issues templates already serve the purposes of what the discussions would be used for. All our "discussions" revolve around specific apps where issues/pull requests are already suitable for communication.
Just want to put this out there that I do not have intentions of creating a matrix server or maintaining a matrix bridge to the discord server. I have (personally) not seen any other FOSS project that I use have a matrix server at all (that includes most of the apps in pi-apps). |
Cool ideas?
Hello, I see that you have a Discord server. However, you don't appear to have a Matrix group. Matrix is typically used by open-source projects because they're more trustworthy than Discord. Many open-source enthusiasts (like me) don't even have a Discord account. There are many ways to bridge a Discord server to Matrix, most notably t2bot.io.
